Continuing this year’s programme of free social leisure cycle rides, on Sunday 20th May, Sustrans Bassetlaw Rangers will guide you on a circular tour, from Worksop to Welbeck, returning through Clumber Park.
This undulating 30-mile ride starts and ends at the Manton Sports Club on Retford Road, Worksop S80 2PU. Heading west along the Chesterfield Canal towpath on National Cycle Network route 6, it’ll edge into South Yorkshire and Derbyshire via Whitwell Common to reach the Welbeck estate, noted for its abbey and art gallery, for a lunch stop at the garden centre. The return route visits the villages of Holbeck and Norton before rejoining NCN6 to enter Clumber Park. Meet up from 9.45am to leave at 10.00am.
More of the Sustrans Rangers have been busy training up as Ride Leaders so they can introduce some shorter, local rides especially for those new to or returning to cycling. These will provide an ideal way to enjoy a friendly leisure ride at a steady pace, supported by experienced rangers, and including a refreshment stop.
The following ride will be on Sunday 17th June and promises a new route; see next month’s issue for more details.
A similar programme of rides is being run from Newark, the next being a short ride to Fernwood on 6th May, and then on the first Sunday of each month.
