Aurora is a local cancer charity providing support in Bassetlaw for people living with cancer or a long-term health condition. Based in the old Library Building in Worksop, the Centre offers a safe environment for everyone, whether they are feeling lonely, want to meet others, or take up a new hobby. Aurora also serves as a community hub, offering a range of heritage and wellbeing activities. Its charity shop stocks a selection of pre-loved items, and the tearooms provide home-cooked food at reasonable prices.
Spotlight on… Move More in May
A joint initiative with Bassetlaw Council, Move More in May encourages people of all ages and abilities to be more active and improve their health and wellbeing. Aurora has organised a month of activities to get involved in.
- Wellbeing Wednesday: Every Wednesday, people are encouraged to complete 1km on one of Aurora’s exercise bikes, located just outside the Curve near the bookshelves. The aim is to reach a target of 100 kilometres throughout May. A small donation is requested to participate, which supports the Centre’s exercise programmes.
- Heritage Hub Stroll: Monday 6th May, 1.00pm to 2.00pm. Join Oliver, one of Aurora’s Heritage team, for a gentle stroll around the Heritage Hub, exploring the objects and history of Bassetlaw. This is a free event.
- Priory Tour: Wednesday 22nd May, 10.00am to 10.45am. Starting at the Priory, enjoy a guided tour of the building and its history. Booking is advisable on 01909 470985, with a suggested donation of £2.00 to be split between the Priory and Aurora.
- Memorial Garden Stroll: May, 1.00pm to 2.00pm (date TBC). Take a gentle stroll around the beautiful Memorial Gardens and Canch, accompanied by a talk from guide Ian about the area’s history. Booking is advisable and it costs £3.00, which includes a hot drink at the end of the walk in Valerie’s Tearooms. Please ring 01909 470985 for more information or to book.
Time to Grow support group receives grant from Worksop Charter Trustees
Time to Grow, a monthly support group based at the Aurora Centre, supports women who have experienced cancer by offering a welcoming space to share experiences, learn from others, and find companionship. The group has received £2,000 in funding from the Worksop Charter Trustees, which will play a key role in sustaining its vital work.
“We are incredibly grateful to the Worksop Charter Trustees for their generous funding. It will help us continue our work of providing a lifeline to women who are dealing with cancer. With this support, we can make sure that Time to Grow is a sustainable resource, helping women now and into the future,” said group organiser Jayne Kean.
