June was a busy and exciting month for the 7th Retford Scout Group, with all sections enjoying a variety of outdoor and practical activities. The Squirrels began the month with a visit to Retford Library, followed by den building at Boughton Woods and a range of outdoor games. Beavers enjoyed a cycling session, water-based games, and a session led by their Young Leader. Cubs also kept active with athletics and a cycling session in Kings Park. During one session, they crafted their own windsocks, which they later tested out in Kings Park while running around, accompanied by catapult launches and space hopper races.
Scouts benefited from a photography session led by Di Fisher of The Photo Den, helping them work towards their Photographer Activity Badge. Other sessions included a fun outing in the river and a cooking session using a variety of cookers. The Scouts tested different methods for heating up hot dogs, comparing their efficiency for hiking, camping, and other outdoor uses. On Sunday 29th June, six of the Cubs enjoyed a packed day at Walesby Scout Activity Centre. They tried rifle shooting, climbing, pedal karts, and crate stacking before stopping for lunch. In the afternoon, they moved to the lake for stand-up paddleboarding, canoeing, and rafting. The day ended with an energetic game of laser tag before heading home. Along the way, they bumped into the 1st Ordsall Brownies, who were also enjoying the day’s adventures.
The group welcomes new members from the age of four, with no upper age limit for adult volunteers. All volunteers over 18 are required to complete a DBS check and undertake some initial training.
