Almost half of Wednesday Group members were referred to the group by Bassetlaw Community and Voluntary Services (BCVS) through their Social Prescribing unit. BCVS works closely with Bassetlaw Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG), the body that decides how the NHS money for Bassetlaw is spent. It is used to pay for a range of things like GP services, hospitals, maternity and mental health care. The CCG’s work is vitally important to all of us and, what’s more, they recognise that medical care is not the only thing needed for good health. Being a valued member of a society that offers care and support to its members is vital, that’s why the CCG supports social prescribing.
Referral to a community advisor who can help people access appropriate local resources that support them with benefits advice, managing medical conditions and tackling loneliness and isolation has been an important first step for many in improving their lives. You can contact a community advisor at the social prescribing unit on 01909 476118 or, if you care for someone with dementia or you yourself have a diagnosis, you may find help through the Wednesday Group or the Carers’ Group. For more information about either group contact Jan on 01777 709974.
