The Wednesday Group wishes all its members, volunteers, friends and supporters a very happy 2019 and thanks them for all they’ve achieved in 2018. They made it a brilliant year. Their volunteers worked tirelessly, all year round to ensure everyone had a great time and their friends have done amazing things. Andy’s climb up Ben Nevis raised money for sports equipment. Barry generously funded Christmas lunch for everyone at the Wellington Café, Tickhill Garden Centre. The British Legion (Retford and District Branch) invited the group to the wonderful tea dance they organised at the town hall and they finished the year with their own Christmas party, a fabulous meal followed by dancing and singing with their regular entertainer, Pat.
Several new members have joined this year and they’ve tried out lots of new activities. Sian, of Sport Nottinghamshire, has got the group playing boccia and introduced them to ‘new age curling’, no ice rink needed just lots of fun to be had. They tried archery too but that was a bit more difficult. The arrows didn’t always go where they wanted them to, so they don’t think they’ll be splitting willow wands any time soon. It was very enjoyable though which is what the Wednesday Group is all about, trying new activities, making new friends, maintaining skills and having a laugh. Memory problems can be stressful and isolating but you can’t be stressed when you’re sharing a laugh with your friends. The group has got plenty more good ideas for 2019 so don’t miss out.
It shall reopen on Wednesday 9th January after the seasonal break and they look forward to welcoming everyone back then. For more information about the Wednesday Group contact Jan on 01777 709974.
