James Freeman, who recently joined Retford Golf Club staff as PGA professional coach, said: “I’m extremely proud of all the players that I coach including the junior players that come to Retford Golf Club on Saturdays to have fun and play some golf. Everyone I coach has undoubtedly improved and reduced their handicap.”
However, it’s fair to say that the club is also extremely proud of James’ own achievements on the competitive circuit. Notably, James has just recently won the Nottinghamshire PGA Order Of Merit for 2018, with a win at Newark Golf Club in October, giving him back to back wins in 2017 and 2018.
James also played in the 2018 PGA Europrotour in April and qualified in nineth position from over 1,000 golfers through the UK and Ireland. Having his PGA degree meant that he could play in both sets of events. On the PGA Europrotour James played 12 out of the 15 events and made every halfway cut, his best finish being a 10th position at Longhirst Hall near Newcastle. He played under par in virtually every round of golf this season. He qualified for the PGA Europrotour Tour Championships at Desert Springs.
James also sits at the top of the PGA English Rankings having had a second and a third place in the two PGA flagship events at Saunton, Devon and Little Aston, Midlands with a combined total of -25 (under par).
Finally, James has just qualified for the European Tour second stage at Frilford Heath, Oxford, having finished in sixth position from 134 players from all over the world.
Naturally the club is delighted to have James working with members, junior players and others interested in improving their golf and wishes James every success both in his competitive career and his coaching achievements.
For anyone wishing to take up golf or to improve their play, Retford Golf Club is a very welcoming club providing excellent facilities, support and both competitive and social opportunities.
