Retford Bowling Green

February: that rather dull time following the Christmas and New Year celebrations and a bit early to be thinking of spring, Easter and the approaching bowling season. At Retford Bowling Green they let in the New Year in their usual way with a ‘Dutch Buffet’ party where everyone contributed something for the table. As usual Shirley Pickersgill, aided by Glennis Evans, organised a really enjoyable evening of games and quizzes. The grand finale was, as ever, organised by the neighbouring hotel with their wonderful firework display.
During this time of the year the club continues with its usual social programme:

  • Social Evenings — Every other Friday from 7.30pm to 10.00pm. These started on 10th January with a fish and chip supper and the next will be on 7th February
  • Coffee Mornings — Every other Friday from 10.00am to 12.00pm, the next being on 14th February
  • Canasta — Every other Tuesday from 2.00pm to 4.00pm, the next being on 4th February
  • Games Afternoons — Every Wednesday from 2.00pm to 4.00pm

As ever, prospective members are welcome to pop-in to these events. Whether you are considering taking up bowls or simply wish to be a social member you will find a warm welcome.

The green is currently expected to open on 16th April. Shortly after that there will be an open day and a series of coaching sessions on Saturday mornings, finishing with taster sessions at Kings Park bowling green on Charter Day. All of these sessions are open to the general public, are completely free of charge, and all necessary equipment is provided including several sets of junior bowls so that younger people may try. It really is a game for all ages. Further details will be available later.

As always, for more information you can visit the club website, email or call Geoff Evans on 01777 948194.
