The early spring weather at the end of February had everyone at Retford Bowling Green looking forward to the new bowling season. However, it must be said that the club have had one of the busiest winters on record as, together with their regular coffee mornings, canasta and games sessions and short mat bowls, they’ve had a successful series of Friday evening social gatherings. Add to this their karaoke evenings and the forthcoming pre-season dinner and they’ll all be ready for a quiet game of bowls!
Bowls, in their case, of the flat green variety is often perceived to be an old peoples’ game. Not so — at their club they have members whose ages range from 10 to 90-plus years! It’s a fun, challenging and entertaining game for anyone of any age. At the start of the club’s season you have a chance to have a go at no cost and with no obligation — just go along, meet members and try the game. Their green and clubhouse are situated on Hallcroft Road, just a short distance from the town centre. Their calendar of events includes:
- Open Day — Sunday 28th April from 11.00am at the club
- Charter Day — Monday 6th May at the bowling green in Kings Park
- Free coaching sessions — Saturdays 11th May until 1st June from 10.00am to 12.00pm at the club
All equipment is provided and there is no need to book — just roll up — you’ll find a warm welcome.
