Retford Men’s Probus Club

by | 17 April 2019 | Probus, Social Group

Retford Men’s Probus Club has been running since 1971. Its meetings take place at the Westhill Community Centre, Ordsall at 10.00am every other Friday. If you want to get involved please see www.retfordmensprobusclub.org.uk.
In April, members had an enjoyable evening visit to the Welbeck Abbey Micro Brewery. Claire Monk had already given the club a talk, last December on how it was established, and how it now operates. There were two speakers for the club’s April meetings. Ann Featherstone gave a very entertaining talk on the Victorian Circus, and then one of the club’s own members, John Cragg, gave an insight into being ‘On safari’.

Roy Evans is moving towards the end of his time as president of Retford Men’s Probus Club. At the AGM on 18th May Roy will pass on the Chain of Office to the current vice president Geoff Gadie. Geoff’s first role as president is to run a trip to the National Railway Museum at York. This trip is arranged for 1st June, and is open to all members and their guests. After this trip the club will have its summer break, resuming meetings again in September.

Members like to feel that Retford Men’s Probus Club is one of those organisations where good fellowship is of prime importance. The speakers are important of course, but not as important as the fellowship members show to each other, and the cup of coffee and a yarn before the meeting starts. Come and try the club. If you are interested in joining, please email their secretary Dennis Beevers at dennis@denboy.plus.com and he will give you more details.
