Well chaps, it’s not far away now. The new season starts on Friday 7th September with a guest speaker, Ian Maber giving a talk entitled ‘The Telling of Tales’.

The committee is looking forward to welcoming you all to the next coming season. I guess here is a timely reminder to bring your annual membership with you, £22.00, which you can give to treasurer, Guy Middleton.
For those new to the idea of Retford Men’s Probus Club, members meet on a fortnightly basis, from September through to the end of May. During the 20 or so meetings, there is usually a speaker and the talks are varied. The speaker booked for the club’s second September meeting will be covering the Cuban Missile Crisis of 1962. I can still remember watching ‘Panorama’ with Richard Dimbleby and his closing remarks at the end of the programme. It went something like, “see you next week, assuming the Russians and the Americans don’t start World War Three”. Chilling stuff to a fifteen year old boy, about to join the forces.

We like to feel that Retford Men’s Probus Club is one of those organisations where good fellowship is of prime importance. The speakers are important of course, but not as important as the fellowship we show to each other, and the cup of coffee and a yarn before the meeting starts. Come and try the club, new members are always welcome.
Retford Men’s Probus Club meet every other Friday morning at Westhill Community Centre, in Ordsall at 10.00am. If you are interested in joining, please email secretary Dennis Beevers at and he will give you more details.
