Retford Ladies Probus Club re-commenced its meetings on 12th September after the summer break. President Carol welcomed members and asked if they had all enjoyed the holiday. She then informed the group that a well-loved past president of Ladies Probus had died and asked them to think of her family at this very sad time.
Sue Clifton was the speaker with a talk entitled ‘Birds in our Gardens’. Sue is a volunteer at RSPB Old Moor and she gave a brief outline of the work that they do with the emphasis being on conservation and sustainability. The education of our children is key in the work at Old Moor.
The largest reserve for birds is, of course, our own gardens and members were shown a film called ‘Nature of Britain’. Sue then talked through the results of the 2018 Big Garden Bird Watch Results for South Yorkshire. Sue’s talk was delivered with enthusiasm, emotion and a real passion for the work she does with the RSPB. She gave tips and hints on how to attract birds into our gardens and how to spot any disease that they may have.
A donation was presented for the two charities that Sue supports — the RSPB and Noor Ministries. The club meets on the second Wednesday of the month at Ordsall Community Centre, Westfield Road at 10.00am for 10.30am. Everyone is welcome.
