After routine business, the July meeting of East Markham WI finalised numbers for visits to the Holocaust Centre in Laxton and county events and members heard the report from the delegate to the NFWI Annual Meeting, recently held in Cardiff.
The speaker for the evening was Vic Hughes whose talk was titled ‘The History of Lincoln Cathedral’. This was an informative, interesting and amusing talk, with many anecdotes giving insight into the history and life of the cathedral and its people. Vic apologised that he had only scratched the surface of the cathedral’s history. He likened his talk to taking only one book from a library and flipping through its pages, when there was so much more to discover. The vote of thanks to Vic was given by Maureen Parsons.
The group’s next meeting is on Tuesday 18th September — Odes and Poems by Helen Shaw-Browne — at 7.15pm at the village hall. New members and visitors are assured of a warm and friendly welcome.
