East Markham WI

Sadly, the coronavirus still restricts our lives, and East Markham WI are still unable to restart their meetings. Following all recent guidance, the WI National Federation has ruled that “WI meetings of more than six people cannot take place even in a Covid secure community facility”. They will keep the situation and guidance under review. The East Markham committee are following closely the rules and advice and are considering ways they can continue to keep in touch with members.
Their neighbours, Egmanton WI, recently held a meeting on Zoom, to which Jenny and Marie from East Markham were invited. The Nottinghamshire Federation Annual Meeting was also held via Zoom, and Jenny and Marie took part again.
It was with great sadness that the group learned that Averil Gagg had passed away on 16th September. Averil was a long-standing member of East Markham, having joined the WI in 1974. She served on the committee for a number of years organising the monthly raffles and was always willing to give votes of thanks to speakers and to county officers at the Annual Meeting and to bake for events. Her many contributions to the branch over the years are much appreciated. They will miss her smiling face and friendly presence and their deepest condolences were sent to her family. A number of members were present to pay their and the branch’s respects as her funeral cortege left her home for Babworth Crematorium on 24th September.
