Bassetlaw Twinning Association is a self-funding organisation that arranges links with our twin towns. Primarily, we link with Garbsen and Pfungstadt in Germany and Aurillac in France. We additionally have links with Farmers Branch in Texas, USA.
In June, 21 German visitors came to Bassetlaw, it was a challenge to find hosts for such a large group, but the association managed it. It was good to welcome back old friends, as well meeting new ones. Guests were with us for five days, during which time they visited The National Mining Museum, Tuxford Windmill and had guided tours of Retford and the workshops at Welbeck. There was also time for socialising in small groups as well as a concert and buffet meal at Worksop Town Hall to enjoy.
In the summer, 18 members of the group travelled to Aurillac where they stayed with families in their homes. While there they visited local places of interest including a chateau, the ruins of a castle, a medieval village and enjoyed a walk in a beautiful gorge, followed by a picnic in the mountains.
In 2019, the association will be hosting a group from Pfungstadt in late May, and they will be returning to them in September. They are also hopeful that they may have some American guests during the next year and into 2020.
The association’s AGM is at Worksop Town Hall, in the Ceres Suite, on 21st January from 7.00pm to 9.00pm. A glass of wine and nibbles will be provided. The guest speaker will be Sandra Withington, who will talk about the plans to celebrate the 400th anniversary of the Pilgrim Fathers arriving in the USA. New members are always welcome.
