What’s on in March at The Hub

The 2019 ‘Rotary Young Artist Competition’ is on at the Retford Hub until 30th March. Visit the exhibition to see this vibrant display of 150 children’s work from nine local primary schools. The amount of work put in by them and by the school staff is fantastic, and the exhibition does our local schools credit. It is always difficult to ‘judge’ entries, and the judges (professional artists with national reputations within the Hub art community) wanted to stress that art is a very personal experience and that not everyone will agree with the results – all the entries were good! The Hub are grateful to Retford Rotary Club and Councillor Theresa Critchley for funding the prizes.

The topic of ‘my favourite place’ has produced a creative spark. It was interpreted in many different ways, through travel and at home, places and people; some of the places were reminiscent for the judges. Living in a little house surrounded by giant mushrooms would be a great place to live and they were beautifully drawn. The beach and the sea featured heavily; which is understandable; but there were some intriguing images, such as Nelson Mandela.
In the end, it was a difficult decision, but the winners were… To find out and to take part in the people’s vote, visit the Hub.
