We CAAN

by | 29 July 2025 | Community Focus, Local Charity, Retford

We CAAN is a charity-based initiative that provides a safe and welcoming space for children and adults with additional needs to be themselves. Sessions are currently hosted thanks to the generosity of St Giles School in Retford.

Once again, sessions will run throughout the summer holidays. Thanks to the continued support of St Giles, activities will be available every Friday from 1st to 28th August. Entry is £3.00 for those with additional needs and £2.00 for siblings. There is no charge for parents or carers. Morning sessions (10.30am to 12.30pm) will be for those who are on the move. Afternoon sessions (1.00pm to 3.00pm) will be for wheelchair users and those with lower mobility.

Booking is required, and further details will be shared on the We CAAN Facebook page. A wide range of new activities will be available and bookable, including Lego, messy play and crafts. Weather permitting, there will also be water play, so spare clothes are recommended! Access will also be available to the large playground, which includes a wheelchair-accessible roundabout, several swings and a basket swing, among other features.

A huge thank you goes to Louise Clarkson and her wonderful dancers, who raised an incredible £9,015. A special mention also goes to Gracie-May Matthews for raising a remarkable £1,000. Sincere thanks to everyone who sponsored the dance fundraising efforts. The group looks forward to welcoming new families and reconnecting with old friends.
