In May, the Cubs at 7th Reford Scout Group held had a road safety session, enjoyed VE Day activities, learnt about the Countryside Code and paid a visit to St Michael’s Church. Scouts made a war time stew, learnt about campsite layouts and made an edible campfire. Beavers and Squirrels have had lots of fun sessions.
Everyone, including the adult volunteers, enjoyed the camp over May Day weekend and lots of badges were earned. During the first week of June, they built a cave maze in the Scout Hut for both Cubs and Scouts. They first had to hunt for objects and memorise them. The second task was to look for Ordnance Survey map symbols and work out what they mean.
Hazel has now stepped down as the Group Lead Volunteer but remains part of the Cub Scout team of volunteers. She has completed 36 years service in a variety of roles, making a much appreciated impact, but her health is now limiting what she can do physically and so she is reluctantly taking a step back from group activities.
Matt Ward has been part of 7th Retford all his life, attending his first camp with his parents and older brother at the age of two. He has taken over the management of the group. They are still on the lookout for more adult help for the Scout section who currently meet on Wednesday evenings.
If you are interested in joining 7th Retford Scout Group, you need to be a minimum of four years old and there is no maximum age limit. All over-18s need to complete a DBS for Scouting and some initial training before they can volunteer with the group. Please email 7thretford@gmail.com or matt.ward@bassetlawscouts.org.uk if you want to know more. Please email the District Team on dlv@bassetlawscouts.org.uk for details of other local Scout Groups if you don’t live close to Retford.
