To celebrate the 80th anniversary of VE Day, in addition to several other events taking place in Sutton-cum-Lound, there will be a flower festival at St Bartholomew’s Church. This special three-day event will take place on Friday 9th to Sunday 11th May, from 11.00am to 4.00pm. It will be a tribute to the courage and sacrifice of those who fought for peace. The church will again be decorated with floral arrangements inspired by themes of remembrance, hope, and gratitude. Each arrangement will tell a story evoking the spirit of unity and celebration that marked the end of World War II in Europe. Many local community groups will be taking part with displays, and the church promises to look beautiful.
On Sunday, the Dukeries Ukeries Ukulele Group will perform in the church from 11.30am to 12.30pm.
There will also be special bell ringing throughout the weekend. Add to this a raffle, delicious refreshments, and some little competitions – the church will indeed be well worth a visit.
Admission is free, but donations to the building fund are always welcome.
