Dr Philip Warren of Sheffield University will give a talk about urban ecology at the February meeting of the North Notts Local Group of Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust. They are very pleased to welcome Dr Warren who is a Professor of Ecology, in the Department of Animal and Plant Sciences at the University of Sheffield.
His research is concerned with understanding how biodiversity is affected by human actions, and how we can make a more sustainable future, by understanding the ecosystems upon which we depend. He will consider whether we should view urban areas as ecosystems, and how the provision of more, diverse, or specific types of, greenspace in urban areas can enhance human wellbeing and increase biodiversity and environmental sustainability.
This talk will help everyone to understand how we can make positive steps to counter the trend of species loss. It will be held in the Rural Learning Centre at the Idle Valley, North Road (A638), Retford DN22 8RQ on 14th February. The meeting starts at 7.30pm. Admission is £2.50, which includes refreshments. All are welcome, including non-members.
