When can The Wednesday (Memory) Group resume their meetings? Certainly not yet! For one thing, it wouldn’t be legal but we’re on our way. We ‘mature’ people in Bassetlaw seem to have all been offered a first COVID jab and many have had their second one too, which is very encouraging and means we shall feel much safer about reopening the Wednesday Group when we are able to do so. It must be a huge relief for anyone to know that they themselves and people they are likely to be mixing with are protected.
It’s hard to know what would be worse, catching COVID or thinking you might have passed it on to someone. The more of us who have the jab, the safer we all are. Now we’ve been jabbed and the infection rate is dropping, we can meet in gardens again so Wednesday Group volunteers and friends are taking advantage of any good weather that comes their way to get together, catch up and think about what we can do when the restrictions are lifted.
Many of us are already eager to get started again, maybe with a slightly less ambitious format at first. Lockdown has had such an adverse effect that it may take everyone a while to get back to being their usual selves. This is why it’s so important to belong to a supportive group; we all help one another. If you’re interested in joining either as a member or volunteer, watch this space!
If you care for someone with dementia or you yourself have a diagnosis, you may find help through the Wednesday Group or the Carers’ Group. For more information about either group contact Jan on 01777 709974.
