Christmas is coming, and the Wednesday Group has a full programme of activities for the festive season. Their usual sessions of Move to Music with Doreen Brothwell and Pat Hodge’s ‘Sing-along-with-Pat’ will help to keep members all fit in readiness to enjoy the special events we have planned. Doreen leads the group in a seated, exercise to music session that is designed to keep everyone, regardless of ability, as fit and flexible as possible. Pat entertains members with a new selection of songs every time she visits. She includes the familiar ones that members like and then tries a few different ones to keep everyone alert! It’s not long before people are on their feet dancing and singing along with her.
This is all good practice for the wonderful tea dance which will be held at the Town Hall at the end of November. This year the Royal British Legion (Retford and District Branch) is organising it and The Wednesday (Memory) Group members are itching to get their toes tapping on a real dance floor again.
Also in November, the group has organised a visit to Tickhill Garden Centre to enjoy the festive spirit, do a spot of shopping and have Christmas lunch in the restaurant.
Happily, members are not just concerned with having a good time themselves; they are very concerned about Bassetlaw people on benefits or in low paid work for whom this Christmas is likely to be particularly difficult as benefit payments will cease in mid-December and Universal Credit will not be payable for at least six weeks. To help them have a happier Christmas, we are supporting the Bassetlaw Food Bank. Please give your support too if you possibly can so we can all enjoy the festive season.
