The Retford and District branch of The Royal British Legion is again indebted to the amazing support for the annual Poppy Appeal shown by all those in any way involved.
So much happens in the lead up to the appeal, involving the Scouts, the air cadets, the poppy knitters and the group who attached them to the netting to give the superb display at The Town Hall to name but a few. The ordering of the poppies and wreaths in readiness for the sale and distribution is undoubtedly an important element, efficiently undertaken by Peter Pimperton and Scott Harrison. There is then the process of distributing the collection tins to local businesses and other outlets, the setting up of the stalls which finally leads to the fortnight of the appeal. The volunteers all work tirelessly to ensure that everyone who wishes to donate has the option to do and the appeal would not be as successful without their help.
However, the appeal would not succeed without the support of the community in such a generous way and this year the total raised is just over £49,000.
The community also supported the two remembrance events held in the Market Square in Retford and the Remembrance Sunday event in Harworth. The branch are thankful of the care and thought shown by everyone and the respect shown to members of our armed forces.
Fundraising is an all year necessity so there will be publicity stalls popping up at local events and the annual quiz night is already on the calendar for Friday 22nd March at Babworth Road Sports and Social Club. Watch out for further information about that.
