September has seen a wide range of social and fundraising activities and events taking place at The Rotary Club of Retford.
At the beginning of the month, they got rather wet completing a litter pick. Club members welcomed Jan Williamson to a meeting to speak about the Wednesday Memory Club and the valuable service it provides to the community. Then at the end of the month a group of members and friends took part in the Alzheimer’s Society Clumber Park Memory Walk, which everyone felt was both moving and uplifting at the same time.
Club members organised a Harvest Breakfast to raise funds towards the supply of fortified porridge to feed children in schools in KwaZulu Natal, South Africa. Big thanks go to all the members and friends who organised, helped and supported this event. As long time supporters, the Club were delighted when their partners in the delivery of their ‘Bread Fund’ project in South Africa took time out of a family trip to the UK to meet their members and provide an update on the work they are doing. The impact and extent of their work with young children across a large rural area is quite amazing.
Work continues apace to set up and hold a range of events over the next couple of months, fundraising for the many local charities that the Retford Rotary Club supports.
Following on from last year’s sell out evening, the Annual Festival of Remembrance is taking place this year on Saturday 9th November at 7.00pm in Retford Town Hall. Tickets (£10.00 including refreshments) are available from Mamma Giusi’s Coffee Shop, Carolgate and Co-op Travel, Marketplace, Retford or online at www.thelittleboxoffice.com/rotaryclubofretford. This event is likely to sell out so please book in good time.
The annual Christmas Lunch and Victorian Market takes place on Thursday 21st November at Ye Olde Bell, Barnby Moor, from 10.00am to 2.00pm. In support of Bassetlaw Hospice, admission to the market only is by donation of £5.00 on the door. However, to book a combined ticket for market entrance and festive lunch at £28.00 per person, please contact Susan Porter on 07980 88208. The 2.00pm sitting is sold out, but there are a limited number of tickets still available for the 12.00pm sitting.
If you are looking to have some fun, or to do a bit of fundraising for your favourite charitable cause before Christmas, then the Retford Rotary Family Santa Fun Run / Walk on the morning of Sunday 8th December might be for you!. Either way, please contact the Club if you want to find out more or go to their website to register – www.rotaryclubofretford.co.uk and click on future events.
