Happy New Year to all our customers. Can you believe it is three years ago that the Tourist Information Centre in town closed and Retford Business Forum stepped in to replace it? North Notts Artisan and Tourist Information Centre (known as Retford Hub) was created; a showcase for the area, with information and local products, run entirely by volunteers to support the community.
What we have brought to town is an arts centre with art gallery and artists’ studios, a local crafts centre focussed on goods from local suppliers which is well supported by over 160 suppliers, all local people. We’ve organised the Retford Arts Festival the first museum dedicated to the Pilgrim Fathers in the area. We have tourists coming just to visit us because we offer a unique shopping and browsing experience. We have a well-stocked Tourist Information and happily answer enquiries from all over the UK.
We have also become a true social Hub. People come to us for all sorts of reasons including a chat over coffee, the chance to find information to explore the local area and its history.
Retford Business Forum continues its support; indeed three members are on the Hub’s Steering Committee which has been developed to drive the Hub forward. Monthly volunteer meetings are held where everyone has a voice and many decisions are made. We are always looking for help and particularly need someone with experience of grant funding to join the team as we search for funding to continue the Hub’s journey. If you have a few hours to help and join the team then please get in touch (firstname.lastname@example.org).
Thank you for all your support. As a customer stated in the first few weeks ‘’Well done, you’ve done it! It’s now up to Retford to keep this going’’. We are a true local shop, run by the people of Retford for Retford. Come and see us soon. Watch out for exciting new developments in early 2018! If you’ve not yet discovered what lies within 11 Churchgate, do come and explore. A warm and friendly welcome awaits.
