Huge congratulations to the MOB, the junior section of Retford Musical Theatre Company, on their fantastic NODA Youth Awards nominations for their 2025 production of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
The production was nominated five times, for Best Youth Production, Best Actor with three of the cast being shortlisted in this category and Best Programme in the East Midlands, area 4, regional awards.
Matthew Heard, who played Willy Wonka, won the award for an outstanding youth performance in a very strong section. Isla Merrills (Charlie) and Toby German (who shared the role of Wonka with Matthew) were also nominated.
Although The MOB did not win the award for best production, which went to Retford Little Theatre youth group for their magical production of Arabian Nights, the group feel honoured that the talent, commitment and creativity shown by the cast, creative team and everyone involved was recognised.
To quote some of the feedback The MOB received from NODA: “I’m sure there is something in the water in Retford to produce so many talented and confident youngsters”
Carolyn White, Chairman of the MOB, said “We are so very proud of all that our young people have achieved and the hard work and dedication they put into all their rehearsals. We are lucky to have so many brilliant young performers in our company and the nominations are a great validation of their outstanding talent.”
The MOB is well known in the local area for its high standard of musical theatre training and productions and they will be on stage at The Majestic Theatre again from Thursday 9th to Saturday 11th July performing Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.
Tickets are available from the Majestic Theatre box office on 01777 706866 or http://www.majesticretford.org.
