The Inner Wheel Club of Retford

We have all heard of the Grammies, but have you heard of the Sammies? At their recent meeting, the Inner Wheel Club of Retford members were given a very informative and entertaining talk, by Emma Taylor, from Greencore, the local sandwich making company.

Emma is responsible for the Morrisons supermarkets account and deals with every aspect of sandwiches, packed lunch snacks and wraps which are sold in Morrisons stores. She travels around taking her nutritional ideas and creations with her, for approval and development. There is more to a sandwich than just bread and butter… which is where the Sammies come in.

They are the annual national awards sought after by all the sandwich making companies. They are judged on the types and varieties of breads, wraps etc and fillings and on innovation. Apparently Mexican is in, but BLT (bacon, lettuce and tomato) is still a firm favourite.

A recent call for help for the people of Dominica, had members gathering bedding, towels, clothing, hygiene items, nappies and baby bundle things for taking to NPAC to fill a container being taken out to help those people in desperate situations since the hurricane and storm damage affected them so badly.

The efforts from the Inner Wheel stall at the Christmas Market raised funds for Joel The Complete Package, a local charity, which supports parents who have lost a baby and helps through subsequent pregnancy.

About twenty members enjoyed a lovely outing to Southwell Minster. They shared a meal together and then were wonderfully entertained with a concert given by three combined Military Wives’ Choirs. It was a lovely way to get into the spirit of Christmas.

The club has welcomed Wendy, Dorothy and Christine as new members and hopes more will follow to share fun and friendship in the service of others. Members wish a very good and happy new year to Retford Life and all who support them.
