The Grove and Hallcroft Methodist Churches form the Methodist presence in Retford. While they function as separate units, they often come together for joint services, social events, and shared initiatives, particularly during special occasions.
The Grove has recently undergone a significant transformation, with decorators, stonemasons and builders completing the latest phase of regeneration. Visitors are warmly invited to view the changes, especially on Charter Day when the building will be open to all.
Events in May
- Retford Art Society Spring Exhibition – Saturday 26th April to Saturday 10th May, The Grove.
- Charter Day – Monday 5th May, 10.00am to 4.00pm, The Grove. Hot drinks, snacks and cakes will be served – a perfect opportunity to see the renovations.
- An Evening with Angus Ashworth, the Yorkshire Auctioneer – Wednesday 7th May, 7.30pm, The Grove. Tickets £8.00, available from Retford Art Hub.
- CommuniTEA at The Grove – Tuesday 13th May, 4.00pm. A two-course meal for members of the local community – no set charge, donations welcome. Please contact Reverend Julie Coates to book a place on 01777 702573.
- Christian Aid Week – Sunday 11th to Saturday 17th May.
- Pastoral Tea – Saturday 17th May, 4.00pm, The Grove.
- Thurnscoe Male Voice Choir – Memorial Concert for John Carter – Saturday 24th May, 7.00pm The Grove. This concert will be dedicated to the memory of John Carter who served the local area as an organist and choir master. Tickets are £6.00, available from Reverend Julie Coates on 01777 702573.

- 10.00am to 12.00pm – Elevenses (often in support of a charity), The Grove
- 2.30pm to 3.30pm – The Listening Place (last Saturday of the month), The Grove
A variety of external groups also use the churches for activities such as singing, dance, poetry, jewellery making, art, and wellbeing sessions.
