Sutton and Barnby Moor WI

by | 13 July 2022 | Retford, Social Group

Members of Sutton and Barnby Moor WI were busy in the village over the holiday period, helping and assisting with various activities during the celebration period. Despite many of the members approaching their twilight years, they were amongst the first to offer their services to help support others in the community to enjoy the Jubilee celebrations.

As some members of the group approach 70, it is only right and fitting they should be recognised for their efforts. It’s not all Jam and Jerusalem; the association has brought many and various topics to the table over the years. Nationally, the WI is involved in various resolutions placed before parliament and in the past has made a Prime Minister re-think national policy. This action was for the benefit of all, not just WI members.

One of the best-known members of the Institute is a lady whom most admire dearly – none other than HM the Queen.
Are you a proud and respected member of a local branch of the Women’s Institute? You can be by attending a meeting of a group near you, where you will receive a very warm welcome! Many long-lasting friendships have been formed through branch meetings in local villages and many crafts and skills have also been taught at local meetings.

Younger members are being sought by most branches. Can you bring the current membership up to date with any of your specialties? If you can, please contact any local branch and make the effort to attend! It’s part of our local and national heritage – everybody has heard of the Women’s Institute.

Sutton and Barnby Moor WI meets at Sutton Village Hall on the third Wednesday of each month at 7.15pm in the summer and 2.15pm in the winter. All new members and visitors are welcome.
