As the winter chills arrive and Christmas draws near, St Saviour’s on Lidget Lane, Retford, DN22 6QW, offers a warm welcome to all. December services and events

  • Advent begins on Sunday 30th November – join the congregation to start the countdown to Christmas! Sunday services take place at 10.30am, with morning worship and Sunday activities for children. Coffee, tea and biscuits are served afterwards. Communion is shared on the second and fifth Sundays of the month.
  • Friday 28th November, 7.30pm – Girls’ Night Out invites all ladies to relax and enjoy an evening of Carols and Songs by Candlelight. The evening includes turkey cobs, mulled wine, mince pies, music, a quiz and a short seasonal reflection. Contact Barbara on 07768 159844 to book and advise of any dietary requirements. The cost is £8.00, payable on the night. Christmas jumpers are encouraged, and guests may bring their own drinks.
  • Saturday 6th December, 6.30pm for 7.00pm – Sean Ruane and Friends present an evening of Christmas music and classical favourites, accompanied by mince pies and mulled wine. Tickets £15.00, available from Wonderland Bookshop or from Mark Barnett on 07966 522679.
  • Sunday 21st December, 4.00pm – Carols by Candlelight for the whole family. Join in singing Christmas carols and enjoy seasonal refreshments in a sparkling festive atmosphere.
  • Christmas Eve, 3.30pm – Dress Up and Join In Nativity. A fun and relaxed opportunity for children (and adults!) to take part in a lively nativity. Whether you’ve dreamed of being an angel, Mary, Joseph or even the donkey – this is your chance!
  • Christmas Day, 10.30am – Family Service with Communion. Children are invited to bring along a favourite toy as everyone celebrates the special gift of Jesus’ birth together.
  • Sunday 28th December, 10.30am – The congregation will attend Grove Street Methodist Church for a joint service. There will be no service at St Saviour’s.
  • Tuesdays – Lego Club continues on 2nd, 9th and 16th December from 3.30pm to 4.45pm, offering snacks, Lego building, games and Bible stories for primary-aged children and their adults.
  • Wednesdays – 10.30am Book of Common Prayer Communion, followed by refreshments and fellowship.
  • Thursdays – From 5.00pm, Rainbows, Brownies and Guides meet weekly. For information, contact clarecheetham19@gmail.com.
  • Grief Café – Held on the first Tuesday of each month, 2.00pm to 3.00pm, this is an informal and supportive space for those who have been bereaved. On Tuesday 2nd December, there will be an opportunity to make a commemorative Christmas wreath. For details, contact Barbara Moakes on 07768 159844.
  • Pies, Peas and Performances host monthly live music events in the Community Centre. For more information, contact Mark Barnett on 01777 701865.
