St Bartholomew’s Church

St Bartholomew’s Church, Sutton com Lound, held a spectacular flower festival over three days in May to mark the 80th anniversary of VE Day.

The event brought together many local individuals and organisations, and the church looked stunning throughout. Bunting adorned the space, and poppies crocheted by the Knit and Natter group were beautifully draped from the balcony.

Floral arrangements were generously provided by the following groups:

  • Sutton Primary School
  • Sutton Pre-School
  • Sutton Gardening Club
  • Austen Addicts
  • Knit and Natter
  • Sutton Parish Council
  • Sutton Village Hall Committee
  • Sutton Bell Ringers
  • Issy’s Crafty Bees
  • Torworth Lakes
  • Sutton Art Group
  • WI
  • Lunch for Locals
  • Branching Out (Retford)
  • Worksop Fold Club
  • Amie’s Macrame
  • The Gate Inn

In addition, several stunning arrangements were created by individuals.

A particular highlight was the concert by the Dukeries Ukeries Ukulele Band – there was even dancing in the aisles. The weekend also featured bell ringing, delicious cakes and refreshments, and a raffle. The church was honoured to display loaned military uniforms, medals, and framed newspapers from the time, among other historical exhibits.

The event raised £865 for church funds. Special thanks go to Sutton Gardening Club for donating a portion of their plant sale proceeds. Sincere appreciation is also extended to everyone who contributed to this memorable occasion in any way.

Date for your diary – the ever-popular Christmas Tree Festival will take place over the weekend of Friday 12th to Sunday 14th December.
