Springtime at 7th Retford Scout Group

by | 1 May 2024 | Children's Group, Retford

It’s been busy time for 7th Retford Scout Group during March.
The Beavers celebrated their mothers and made some cards to say thank you to them. The following week they decorated plant pots and planted some crocus bulbs.

They also managed to complete the Space Activity Badge, drawing some amazing alien pictures! The group also welcomed three new members to the Beaver Scout Colony at the end of March.

Cubs made some Mother’s Day cards using watercolour paints. They also decorated a plant pot and filled it with crocus bulbs. Over two sessions, the Cubs completed their Road Safety Activity Badge, which included going out to use pedestrian and zebra crossings. They also studied a map of Retford to find various community facilities, which is part of the World Challenge Badge.

Scouts started March tie-dying some cotton tote bags to take home for their Mums; this was a bit messy as it involved squirting ‘paint’ onto a tied-up bag, so it was done outside. The second week involved cooking food on open fires outside, especially marshmallows! The Scouts had asked for an art night so this was arranged and they all sat enthusiastically drawing whatever they chose.

In the final week in March, all three sections made some chocolate Easter nests, iced biscuits and played games.

If your child is interested in joining Beavers, Cubs or Scouts, email Hazel Newstead at 7thretford@gmail.com. You will be advised which section is appropriate for your child and a possible start date.
There is a lot of information on the Scouts website about being an adult volunteer with Scouting: www.scouts.org.uk/volunteer/Volunteering with Scouts. 7th Retford is looking for more help with the Beaver Colony (aged 5¾ up to 8½ years) and Scout section (aged 10 to 14½ years).

They are hoping to open a Squirrel Drey for 4- and 5-year-olds in the near future.

If you would like more information, email 7thretford@gmail.com or the District Team at DC.Team@bassetlawscouts.org.uk, who can advise you about other groups in Bassetlaw.
