Sing into spring with Retford Community Singers

by | 6 February 2026 | Community Focus, Local Experiences, Music, Retford

After a winter break, Retford Community Singers resume sessions every Tuesday from Tuesday 3rd February during term time, from 7.00pm to 8.30pm, at Chapelgate Hall, to the rear of Grove Street Methodist Church, DN22 6LA. Sessions cost £5.00, payable by cash at the door, with half-price sessions available for anyone on means-tested benefits.

The group welcomes every adult who wants to sing for pleasure. Sessions follow Natural Voice guidelines, with everything taught by ear – there is no need to read music and there are no auditions. Repertoire includes a wide range of music with good harmony, such as folk, pop, gospel, songs from international traditions and specially composed material. While the group sings out in the community from time to time, the main emphasis is on singing for joy with like-minded people.

One member said: “I absolutely love attending our choir session on Tuesdays, and especially being led by our wonderful Janet.” Retford Community Singers is a friendly and enthusiastic group, and new singers are encouraged to simply turn up on any Tuesday and introduce themselves. The hall is fully accessible and a warm welcome is assured.
