Active4Today has been providing self-defence sessions across local leisure centres in response to residents’ comments that they’d like to learn how to stay safe whilst out exercising alone during the winter months.
Instructor Paul, who runs the Southwell and West Bridgford Taekwondo Club, has been delivering sessions over the past two years and has previous experience of delivering personal safety sessions to university students and adult groups across the county.
Each two-hour session is split into two elements – information and discussion about personal safety including statistics, statements, videos and photos, and practical techniques to help you escape threatening situations.
The sessions have garnered fantastic feedback, including:
“Paul was very respectful throughout the session, ensuring everyone felt comfortable when participating in the practices. He explained everything clearly, with great demonstrations.”
“The session was a great experience; I learnt a lot, making me feel safer and more confident about going out alone. I would thoroughly recommend attending one of these sessions to anyone.”
The next free session is open to everyone age 16+ and will be held on Thursday 1st December at Dukeries Leisure Centre, Ollerton, 7.00pm to 9.00pm. Please remember to take a bottle of water and wear comfortable clothing that you can move in easily, including trainers or flat-soled shoes.
