Science, memory skills and outdoors sessions with 7th Retford

7th Retford Beavers have only had three sessions in May due to the three Bank Holidays. Tanith (Otter) and Daisy (Squirrel) are working very hard with the colony. Some have successfully transferred up to Cubs. The Beavers have been invited to join the Cubs for a day at the Pack camp in June.

May has seen the Cubs working on the Science Activity Badge over three sessions led by Charlotte, one of the new leaders. There was also an evening in Kings Park learning how to pitch a tent ready for the weekend camp in June.

Some Cubs took part in a sleepover at Tuxford Scout and Guide Headquarters in May with Cubs from 2nd Tuxford, 1st East Markham and Askham and 1st Clarborough. Here the Cubs worked in small groups on all sorts of challenge and craft activities. 7th Retford had a pancake cooking base on Saturday and using two way radios on Sunday to teach communication skills to build matching towers with Mega Blocks.

Scouts have learned about compass points and put the theory into practice in the town centre. They took part in an indoor cave maze testing their memory skills as well. They constructed ducks out of cardboard and, the following week, took them down to the river and had fun floating them. Scouts had a weekend camp in June and then will enjoy five days away in Staffordshire at the end of July.

For any information about joining the Scout Group (child or adult), please contact Hazel via email at 7thretford@gmail.com or phone 01777 704835, but it is necessary to announce yourself (BT Call Minder).
