Ryton Chorale wishes a Happy New Year to all its friends and supporters. For anyone making New Year’s resolutions, becoming a sponsor or Patron of Ryton Chorale might be one to consider. Last year was a very successful one for Ryton Chorale. Under the leadership of Nicholas Thorpe, the first concert of the year in March saw the choir, supported by English Pro Musica Orchestra and outstanding soloists, perform Handel’s Messiah at the Crossing Church in Worksop to a near-capacity audience.
Sierra Farquhar Wulff then returned from maternity leave following the safe arrival of her son in January, leading rehearsals and conducting a wonderful concert at Worksop Priory. Among other pieces, the choir sang Bob Chilcott’s A Little Jazz Mass and a medley from Les Misérables. The concert was shared with Whitwell Brass Band.
The autumn concert took place in Worksop Town Hall and was warmly received by the audience. A particular highlight was the choir’s performance of Snow Angel by Sarah Quartel, a joyful and thought-provoking piece new to many listeners. Rachael Perry played cello for Snow Angel and performed two solo works by Saint-Saëns, adding greatly to the evening.
In the New Year, rehearsals recommence at Holy Family School on Netherton Road on Monday 5th January at 7.30pm. Anyone who enjoys singing choral music is encouraged to go along and join in. The next concert will take place on Saturday 28th March and will feature Fauré’s Requiem with a supporting programme and guest soloists. The concert will be held at The Crossing on Newcastle Street and is expected to be popular. Tickets, priced at £15.00, will be available soon.
