Royal British Legion Retford Branch

Further to the update in last month’s issue, The Royal British Legion Retford and district branch, hope that you will be able to support another aspect of remembrance currently being arranged. As another act of the commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the Armistice, which in effect brought to an end the First World War (although the peace treaty wasn’t signed until June 1919), the local branch of The Royal British Legion is arranging for a bench to be placed in Retford Market Square.

The total cost is approximately £1,000. Some of the funding is already in place, but further donations are required to ensure that this project can go ahead. Individual or group donations can be made, and further details can be obtained from Ann Hickman on 01777 818993.

Very few families escaped the effects of this conflict and you may wish to donate as a remembrance of an individual or, as an organisation, in remembrance of a group of individuals. However, you don’t have to have a reason other than to help us to provide a lasting memorial to all those who played any part in that period of our history 100 years ago.
