Royal British Legion Retford and District

2022 sees the 40th anniversary of the Falklands War. The local branch of The Royal British Legion will be holding a short service of remembrance around the War Memorial in the Market Place, Retford on Tuesday 14th June at 11.00am. Everyone is welcome to attend. It will be a time to reflect and remember those who didn’t return, or those returned with the physical or mental scars of war.

Several members recently attended an awards evening in Nottingham at which members across the county were recognised for their voluntary work within the RBL. Cath Richardson, the local welfare officer, was recognised, as was Hazel Peacock for her help and support of her husband Tony Peacock, who sadly passed away. The event was hosted by Notts County Council and members enjoyed a buffet and entertainment. The local Standard was carried by Alan Campbell, one of several Standards at the event.

The branch had a successful day at the recent Retford Charter Day where the latest badges were available for the first time. Special badges have been produced for the Falklands anniversary and the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. The annual pin badge, which is always keenly awaited, was also on show. All three badges can be obtained from the branch or by contacting Ann Hickman on 01777 818993.
