The RLT Youth Theatre, established in 2015, aims to teach youngsters stagecraft while providing a space where they can build confidence and embrace their individuality. Over the past nine years this mission has come to life, as both current and former members leave with newfound self-assurance and enhanced abilities.
Dedicated volunteers are instrumental in this success. They create opportunities for young people by writing and adapting scripts tailored to the group, providing impressive costumes and scenery, and utilising the excellent stage, lighting, and sound facilities of The Little Theatre. More importantly, they nurture each individual to help them reach their full potential.
Over the years, RLT Youth have performed plays such as Alice in Wonderland, Peter Pan, Arabian Nights, Romeo and Juliet, Macbeth and Dracula.
This July marks the group’s 10th production, and to celebrate this milestone they are returning to their inaugural play, ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’, with a fresh, modern twist. They’ve retained Shakespeare’s original text, abridged it for a shorter runtime, and set the story in the vibrant 1980s, complete with fantastic music, costumes, and an imaginative ‘forest’ setting that you won’t want to miss!
This performance is a wonderful introduction to Shakespeare for young people and newcomers alike, and to encourage attendance, the theatre is offering ‘Shakespeare for a Fiver’! The talented youth theatre members are confident, disciplined, and hilariously entertaining. Join them and support your local youth theatre group!
