Retford u3a – Learn, Laugh, Live

by | 9 July 2024 | Education and Learning, Hobbies, Retford, Social Group, U3A

Outdoors-based interest groups at Retford u3a are in full swing, with different length walks and cycle trips to tempt members out after the wettest winter and spring in a very long time. More than a few members with weather-weary bones are very grateful!

To name just one other group getting outdoors, the water colour enthusiasts will be visiting the walled garden in Clumber Park from 10.00am on 25th July to hone their brush skills in one of the most beautiful local attractions. If you enjoy gardens without necessarily wanting to paint them, u3a Gardening’s 2024 round of daytrips are in full swing too!

Military History offers two opportunities this month to learn about one of the most daring Allied raids of the war: the Canadian Commando raid on Dieppe in 1943. Stephen Hall will be giving his talk at Hallcroft Community Centre on 11th July at 10.00am, and again via Zoom at 2.00pm on 22nd July.

Events are coming thick and fast at the u3a. On 19th July they sit down to the next Big Night Out at Retford Golf Club. The following Thursday members meet again at The Well at 2.00pm for their General Meeting. This month their speaker, Bob Blatchford is taking members on a trip he made with the travelling magistrates of Canada’s Northwest Territory as they delivered justice to the far-flung Inuit communities of the Canadian Arctic.

Your u3a is making a big effort to launch new interest groups and welcome new members. The new membership year started in April, so this is a good time for potential new members to go along, meet everyone and sample meetings. There is no charge, so Retford Life readers looking for new pastimes and friends are welcome to attend the General Meeting.
