Retford u3a – Learn, Laugh, Live

by | 4 March 2024 | Education and Learning, Hobbies, Retford, Social Group, U3A

Retford u3a is well into a fascinating run of talks about villains and villainy at their meetings. Last month members heard about the poachers at Rufford in Victorian times. What a fascinating local history there is to find in north Nottinghamshire!

On 28th February at 1.00pm, it will be an altogether more current crime topic. Nottinghamshire Police are sending the County’s Fraud and Cyber Protection Officer to tell members how to make use of their phones, tablets and computers without opening themselves up to the loathsome criminals who have made the Internet their hunting grounds.

Retford u3a urges all members to consider attending and to have their questions ready.

Next month at the AGM, the group will be slipping back in time to hear about rather more romantic historical outlaws, the highwaymen of the Old North Road. Go along to get the lowdown on Swift Nicks Jevison, Dick Turpin and their dashing villainous brethren.

Unfortunately, events forced local guest speaker Bob Blatchford to postpone his talk on a fascinating period in his life when he travelled the Canadian north woods, shadowing a Canadian Magistrate amongst the Arctic Inuit people – A Justice in the Arctic. You will be pleased to hear that his talk has merely been postponed and not cancelled.

The new membership year starts in April, so this is a good time for potential new members to go along, meet the group and sample meetings. There is no charge, so Retford Life readers looking for new pastimes and friends are welcome to attend the General Meeting.
