Retford u3a have lots of news for this month, starting on 16th to 23rd September, which is National U3A Week. This is an opportunity to showcase u3a activities, learning and fun taking place every day. In Retford, they are hosting an informal gathering at Retford Library. You are very welcome to drop in for a cuppa and a biscuit between 2.00pm and 4.00pm on Friday 22nd September and find out more about your Retford u3a.

You will meet members and group leaders as well as get a flavour of what some of their interest groups get up to. They have 35 groups, so there is something for everyone – from snooker to Spanish, via military history, gardening, quilting and many more. Some of the groups organise trips and visits too. This month, for example, the Military History group took a full coach on a day trip to Bletchley Park.

They have a General Meeting with a speaker on the fourth Thursday of every month between 1.30pm and 3.30pm at The Well, Hospital Road, Retford. Future speakers will cover topics including, Sloswicke’s Almshouse Charity, and tales of female British wartime pilots. Last month they heard from the Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service and on 28th September, they will be hearing from Bonney Baggaley of Bassetlaw Hospice.

Next month, on Friday 20th October, they are holding their next Big Night Out at Retford Golf Club. Tickets are going fast but there is still space for members and guests. To book a place please contact Sue Paul on 01777 705008 or social@retford-u3a.org.uk.
