Retford u3a

What a month has passed! What a month is coming!

Retford u3a sees a new Chairman – Pippa Barclay (past Secretary) and the current Chairman Bryan Gladstone is reverting to his previous role and will fill the empty (since July 2021) vice-chair post.

Bryan is writing this in anticipation of favourable votes at the 2023 AGM in April. It is two weeks away as he writes, but two weeks in the past as you read. It is expected Pippa is in the chair, Bryan is her vice-chair and the group have welcomed new Membership Secretary, Pat Lockett and Speaker-Finder, Angela Grant. Sue Paul has stepped down from the Committee with thanks for her super work in that difficult role too.

The next General Meeting on Thursday 25th May will feature Bassetlaw Hospice’s Bonney Baggaley as guest speaker. None of us like to dwell on the focus of the Hospice’s work, but all of us will at least know families and individuals that have been or are being helped by this selfless organisation and its people.

On an entirely different matter, Retford have recently found out that several other Nottinghamshire u3as have been running Yoga and similar interest groups that require qualified (and insured!) instructors. The interest group leaders are responsible for the logistics (scheduling, finding a suitable place, managing and controlling attendance by members, and so on), but the instructor is the star of the meeting, rather like speakers are at military history meetings. They have proven very popular elsewhere, so the same might happen in Retford.
