Spring at last! The Retford u3a gardening group has never been busier, and all of their walking and cycling groups too.
This month sees the group’s 2023 Annual General Meeting and, in keeping with the season, they welcome Retford Civic Society’s Derek Turner to tell members about Retford in Bloom. They are expecting a big crowd at The Well on Thursday 27th April.
Last month Retford u3a saw membership climb back above 500, so they are truly busy. Over the next six months there are too many trips planned to list them all. Military History and Gardening both have full schedules – visiting the former to RAF Cosford, the Eden Camp Prisoner of War site in North Yorkshire and Bletchley Park; and too many gardens across England to list. Both groups will be joining other interest groups at the Group Tables at the General Meeting on 27th April if you are interested in finding out more.
There is also a trip planned to Nottingham in October to see the Northern Ballet perform Beauty and the Beast. You don’t have to be a group member to join trips as long as you are in the u3a, but you will want to get your name down soon.
Looking forward, there is a full speaker programme for the coming year with talks coming up on Mr Straw’s House from the National Trust, bee keeping, Bassetlaw Hospice, Citizens Advice and more, all booked by wonderful outgoing Speaker Finder, Pippa Ramsay.
They also have another Big Night Out provisionally set for Friday 9th June (find out more at the AGM!). They have outgoing Membership Secretary Sue Paul to thank for the success of the Big Nights Out.
