For Retford u3a the August speaker is past Hucknall u3a Chair, David Rose, to tell members about Walking the Camino. The Camino de Santiago, or the Way of St James, is a pilgrimage of medieval origin to the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela in Galicia, in the northwest of Spain. Today it is one of the most popular long-distance walks in Europe.
The route meanders through Galicia, a ‘green’ province in Northern Spain. David will tell everyone about his experience and some of the historical background to the Camino, which is also known as The Way.
The group is grateful to David for agreeing to share his experiences, recovering as he is from a nasty bicycle accident.
Also coming up is the u3a Night Out in October. Details currently being hashed out and will follow.
Next month, the speaker will be telling the group about the Idle Valley beavers. These new neighbours are part of the Wildlife Trust’s project to reintroduce beavers to England after a 400-year absence.
