Good news at last. The local authority are set to re-open their two community centres in Retford and Retford U3A’s interest group leaders who use either Westhill or Hallcroft have been advised by Bassetlaw Council that these centres will be available for hire, from July. Some group leaders have made the decision to start up as soon as they can, but others are waiting to start live meetings until September.
Zoom will continue to be available to group leaders until August 2022, with the intention of groups being able to meet electronically if they have regular attendees from out of the immediate area. The Military History Group, for instance, have regular attendees join from Chicago, Illinois and France. As there are only around 40 Military History Groups out of the 1,000 U3As in the UK, the group also have attendees from at least another 10 U3As.
Plans are still going ahead to have a market stall in Retford on Thursday 3rd June, the day after National U3A Day but a great opportunity to, if you are not a member, find out a little more about Retford U3A. Go along and say hello.
You can also find out more on Retford U3A’s website. If there is a group that attracts your interest, contact the group leader to see if you can join in as a guest. Of course, when they can safely meet up again, they will be after you to ask you to formally join the U3A. You can always contact their membership secretary, Sue Paul, on 01777 505008.
