Retford Swimming Club have once again enjoyed great success at the Grantham Grand Prix this year, gaining valuable experience, achieving personal best times and winning medals to boot. A team of 22 young swimmers aged nine to 12 years old travelled to Grantham Meres for four galas over five months and were required to race in all strokes over different distances to encourage their race skills development over different disciplines.

The team comprised of Emily Mitchell, Ava Heald, Lucy Clemments, Breanna Chamberlain, Eva Chapman, Bethan Harris, Grace Holtom, Lily Heenan, Neve Ping, Evie Holmes, Chloe Natriss, Charlotte Clemments, Mia Richards, Ava Pashley, Kacey Driver, Oliver Atkinson, Harry Brancham, Seth Hinitt, Joshua Kettlewell, Callum Merrills Owen Rafferty and Liam Toms.

Retford swimmers hauled seven medals in total including three first place finishes over different age groups. All swimmers achieved new personal best times and some achieved qualification for regional championships. Additionally, some meet records were broken by 11-year-old Breanna Chamberlain.

Retford Swimming Club have a proven track record in supporting talented young swimmers all the way to national success. Several are eagerly awaiting the end of the current national qualifying window and are strong contenders for places. 16-year-old Natasha Utley, a pupil at Tuxford Academy, has recently returned from the British Championships in Glasgow where she competed in the 200m women’s butterfly event.
