For several years, Retford Rotary has organised a highly successful and popular art competition, promoted by the Rotary Club of Retford in collaboration with the Retford Hub, where it will be exhibited. The display of all the artwork is colourful and uplifting, and the children have great delight in seeing their work in a professional gallery. Last year the competition attracted 120 entries from five schools. The competition is for Key Stage 2 (junior school) children — aged seven to 11 years old. It is free to enter and the school with the best entry will receive a variety of art materials to the value of at least £500.
Competition Guidelines
- Task — To produce a piece of artwork no bigger than an A4 sheet of paper using any media with the theme ‘My favourite place’. It can be realistic or abstract. If possible, it would be helpful to mount it on some coloured paper.
- Prizes — There will be prizes for seven to eight and nine to 10 age groups. There will be a Rotary certificate for every school taking part and the school with the best entry will receive a variety of art materials to the value of at least £500.
- Exhibition — The exhibition is held at the Retford Hub Art Gallery and will be open to the public for six weeks, including February half term. Parents of entrants are encouraged to visit. The school will receive invitations to the opening evening for staff and parents.
Entry forms are available from Retford Hub. Entries should be sent to Retford Hub, 11 Churchgate, Retford DN22 7DJ by 18th January 2019. The winners and all entries will be on display in the Gallery of the Hub in Cannon Square, Retford, in February/March 2019.
Judges with appropriate skills will be appointed by the Rotary Club of Retford.
