Retford Platinum Jubilee celebrations Market Square Street Party

by | 20 May 2022 | Community Event, Retford

Retford will be celebrating the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee from 12.00pm to 6.00pm on Sunday 5th June with a street party on the Market Square. It’s a great chance for everyone to get together and spend some time getting know each other. There will be children’s entertainers including a face painter, a crown-making workshop, Debutots story-telling, and the ever-popular Professor Paul Temple’s Punch and Judy Show.

There will be tables and chairs provided on the square for people to consume their own food and drink, or to purchase from the excellent restaurants, cafés and mobile food-stalls nearby. Entertainment will be provided by local DJ, Russ Brett, playing music for the whole family from the seven decades of the Queen’s reign. Local singer, Jessica Mary Brett, will be providing live performances during the afternoon, as will members of the Worksop Salvation Army Brass Band.

In the Town Hall Buttermarket, there will be a café provided by Goodwin Hall and a memory-wall, created by the team at Bassetlaw Museum. Throughout the Town Hall will be craft stalls providing a range of gifts and, hopefully, some Jubilee souvenirs.

Don’t worry about the weather – the event will still go ahead in the Town Hall – the craft stalls will be reduced to make room for tables and chairs in the Buttermarket and the Ballroom. All of the entertainment will continue inside, including for the children. Let’s hope it is a sunny day, but if not, we will still celebrate!

Retford Business Forum (RBF) is still planning the details of the day with local organisations including Bassetlaw District Council (BDC), Royal British Legion, EES Showhire, Girlguiding Retford, The Grove, Bassetlaw Museum, BDC Markets, Retford Charter Trustees, and That Girl Communications – if any other organisations would like to join the task group, please contact

RBF is very grateful for the support received from partners BDC, North Notts BID and the Retford Charter Trustees, without whom this event would not be possible.
