The second Pilgrim Fun Run is coming to Retford on Sunday 25th November 2018 — as far as we know, the only one in the UK commemorating the Mayflower Pilgrim families and their supporters, who came from the area around Retford. Run or walk — it’s up to you — it’s 5k and it’s just for fun!
Bassetlaw Hospice is the preferred sponsorship partner, so please raise as much as you can for this very worthwhile local cause. The organisers, Retford Business Forum, are asking all runners to consider raising money for Bassetlaw Hospice and suggest setting a target of £20.20, as 2020 will be the 400th anniversary of the Mayflower Pilgrims’ journey to the New World.
The adult entry fee is £10.00 in advance via Virgin Money; £15.00 if not, plus booking fee via Eventbrite. If you leave it to the last minute, entry on the day is £20.00. Children’s entry is £3.00 if booked through Virgin Money, £5.00 if not. Please go to www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/the-pilgrim-fun-run-2018-tickets-47414075777 for booking and further information.
The organisers are very grateful to TLS Ltd, who are their strategic partner and sponsor for the 2018 Pilgrim Fun Run. An administration desk will be in Retford Market Square from 7.30am on Christmas Market day. Entry fees will go to help cover the costs of the run and administration; surplus generated beyond this will be donated to Bassetlaw Hospice.
There will be prizes for the best adult, and child, Pilgrim outfits, so please gather together at the start line at 9.15am for the judging and a group photograph. There are no changing facilities, so please come ready. The public toilets behind the Town Hall will be open.
Help to make it work — volunteers are needed to help marshal the run — if you would like to help, please contact Steve Bennett at TLS (steve@tlsltd.org).
Watch out for separate announcements about the Pilgrim art exhibitions at Babworth Church and Worksop Priory on the weekend of 17th and 18th November; the Retford lantern parade on 20th November on Carolgate (5.30pm), followed by the Children’s Service at St Swithun’s Parish Church and the ‘400’ photograph. There will be a Thanksgiving Dinner with entertainment at Spencer’s on the Square on 15th November.
