Retford Patchwork and Quilting

by | 13 November 2025 | Art, Community Focus, Hobbies, Local Experiences, Retford, Social Group

Anyone interested in learning or improving traditional patchwork and quilting skills, regardless of experience level, is warmly invited to join the Retford Patchwork and Quilting group. The group meets every other Wednesday at The Grove, Retford, from 6.30pm to 9.00pm, and every third Friday from 10.00am to 2.00pm for a more informal session held in a member’s home. Places can be booked in advance by getting in touch using the contact details below.
Each month features a Block of the Month project, with full written instructions provided for all skill levels. Recently, members completed a Star Block design, which will be assembled and displayed at The Star Festival on Saturday 22nd and Sunday 23rd November at The Grove. On alternate Wednesdays, members take their own projects or continue practising techniques from previous blocks.
The group has been meeting for six months and already boasts a mix of experience and enthusiasm. Julie and Amy lead with their expertise and teaching skills, while other members are always happy to offer guidance and support. Sessions are full of creativity, conversation, and plenty of tea and biscuits.
For many members, patchwork and quilting are far more than a hobby. There’s real joy in transforming scraps of fabric into something both beautiful and useful – a quilt for a new baby, a wall hanging for a friend, or a piece for a local exhibition.
Beginners are particularly welcome, and no prior experience is needed. Whether you’re looking for a new creative challenge, an opportunity to socialise, or simply the calming pleasure of making something by hand, you’ll find a friendly and supportive group waiting to help you get started.
